Satan’s Weapons part 2

February 11, 2014

Welcome back!  We will be finishing up this series today.  We talked about our Spiritual Weapons of Warfare for 3 weeks and then last week we covered the weapons Satan uses against us. Remember We NEED to be alert and aware of his plans, if not he’ll try and take us out.  1 Peter 5:8.   So let dig in!

Second Chance to Dream: Satan's Weapons part 2 #christianliving

Before we get into the study I want to remind you that Satan does NOT want you to realize Who you are in Christ.  He doesn’t want you to live in the authority that you have in Christ Jesus and he will do whatever he can to keep you from stepping into that.  So, these are some of his favorite weapons he likes to use against you to keep you distracted!

Self –sufficiency

2 Sam 24:9-14, 9 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.

10 David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, Lord, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.”
11 Before David got up the next morning, the word of the Lord had come to Gad the prophet, David’s seer: 12 “Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.’”
13 So Gad went to David and said to him, “Shall there come on you three[a] years of famine in your land? Or three months of fleeing from your enemies while they pursue you? Or three days of plague in your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should answer the one who sent me.”

14 David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.” NIV

Isa 50:10-11, Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. 11 Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who equip yourselves with burning torches! Walk by the light of your fire, and by the torches that you have kindled! This you have from my hand: you shall lie down in torment.

Luke 12:16-21, 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” ESV

John 15:5, I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ESV

2 Cor 3:5-6, Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. ESV

2 Cor 12:9, But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Subtle Agreements

Ananias and Sapphria
Acts 5:1-12, But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. 6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him. 7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Petersaid  to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

Judas Iscariot
Luke 22:3-6, Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.

Matt 26:14-16, Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.  16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Matt 27:3-6, Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself. ESV

 Slander

Matt 12:36-37, I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they
speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Prov 10:18, He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. NIV

Ps 101:5, Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an
arrogant heart I will not endure.

Ps 50:19-21, You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. 20 You speak continually
against your brother and slander your own mother’s son. 21 These things you have done and I kept
silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. NIV

Num 12
Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. 2 And they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it. 3 Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth. 4 And suddenly the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting.” And the three of them came out. 5 And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward. 6 And he said, “Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. 7 Not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” 9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and he departed. 10 When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous. 11 And Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, do not punish us because we have done foolishly and have sinned. 12 Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes out of his mother’s womb.” 13 And Moses cried to the Lord, “O God, please heal her—please.” 14 But the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut outside the camp seven days, and after that she may be brought in again.” 15 So Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days, and the people did not set out on the march till Miriam was brought in again. 16 After that the people set out from Hazeroth, and camped in the wilderness of Paran. ESV

1 Peter 5:5, Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you,
with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Rom 13:1-2, Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except
from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.

Worry/ Anxiety

Prov 12:25, An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. NIV

John 14:1-2, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. ESV

Ps 55:22, Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. ESV

Luke 12:22-26, Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 Life is more than food, and the body
more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn;
yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can
add a single hour to his life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the
rest? NIV

Phil 4:6-7, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. NIV

Discouragement/Hopelessness/Despair

1 Cor 15:57-58, But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. ESV

Rom 15:13, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of
the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. ESV

2 Cor 12:9-10, But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ
may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships,
persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ESV

Prov 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. ESV

Jer 29:11-14, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I
will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. NIV

Prov 17:22, A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Selfishness
Phil 2:3-4, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better
than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of
others. NIV

1 Cor 10:24-25, Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. ESV

James 4:1-3, What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle
within you? 2 You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you
want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not
receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. NIV

Gal 5:25-26, If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. ESV

Heb 13:16, Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to
God. ESV

Secret Battles/sins

Ps 90:8, You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. ESV

1 John 1:8-10, If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If  we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. ESV

Heb 4:13, And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. ESV

James 5:16, Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be
healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. NIV

Heb 12:1-2, Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside
every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. ESV

Offence/Bitterness/Hatred/Unforgiveness

Rom 12:16-21, Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.
Never be conceited. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight
of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 19 Beloved, never avenge
yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the
Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to
drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but
overcome evil with good. ESV

Matt 6:14-15, For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15
but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ESV

Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. NIV

Gal 5:25-26, If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited,
provoking one another, envying one another. ESV
