How to Find Your Identity When You Feel Lost

April 11, 2025

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, Who am I anymore? Maybe life has shifted—your kids are older, your marriage feels distant, or you’ve poured so much into others that you’ve forgotten yourself. You might feel you’ve lost your sense of purpose, direction, or even your identity.

If you’re feeling unseen, unworthy, or like you’ve lost yourself in the roles you play—wife, mom, friend, employee—you’re not alone. Many women struggle with this. The good news? You don’t have to stay stuck in that feeling.

Why Do We Feel Lost?

Many of us define ourselves by external things—our relationships, accomplishments, or even our failures. When those shift, we feel unanchored. The enemy whispers lies:

You’re not enough.

You don’t matter.

You’ll never be good enough.

But here’s the truth: your identity isn’t found in what you do, who you’re with, or what others think of you. Your identity is found in Christ.

How to Reclaim Your Identity

Go Back to the Source – God’s Truth About You

The world tells us to “find ourselves” by searching within, but real identity comes from the One who created us. God calls you chosen (1 Peter 2:9), loved (Romans 8:38-39), and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). When you start feeling lost, remind yourself of who God says you are.

Practical Step: Write down 3 Bible verses that remind you of your worth in Christ and put them where you’ll see them daily.

Stop the Comparison Game

Social media makes it easy to believe that everyone else has it together while you’re struggling. But comparison steals joy and blinds you to the unique calling God has for your life.

Practical Step: Take a break from social media for a few days and focus on gratitude. Ask God to show you what makes you beautifully unique.

Find Joy in Who God Created You to Be

Have you lost touch with what makes you, you? The things that bring you joy and make you feel alive? Your gifts and passions were placed in you by God for a reason.

Practical Step: Think back to what you loved before life got so busy. What activities make you feel connected to yourself? Schedule time for one of them this week.

Surround Yourself with Life-Giving People

Who speaks truth into your life? Who encourages you in your faith? You need voices that remind you of your worth in Christ, not ones that make you feel small.

Practical Step: Reach out to a godly friend, mentor, or Bible study group. Be intentional about connecting with people who lift you up.

You Are Not Forgotten

Feeling lost doesn’t mean you’re broken—it means you’re ready for a fresh start. God has never lost sight of you, even when you’ve lost sight of yourself. Your identity is secure in Him, and when you lean into His truth, you’ll find the clarity and confidence you’ve been searching for.

So take a deep breath, sister.

You are seen.

You are loved.

You are His.

What’s one step you can take today to rediscover who you are in Christ? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to encourage you!
