DIY Outdoor Halloween Decor

October 7, 2013

I am really excited today to show you a product I just recently tried.  It’s Martha Stewart Decoupage products.  Just look at all this fun Halloween product!

This product is amazing!! Why, you may ask?  All of the decoupage formulas are dishwasher safe, non-yellowing, machine washable, it dry hard without being tacky and my very favorite- they can be used outdoors as well as inside.  They can also be used on any surface- glass, wood, plastic, metal and fabric. My kind of product, one that is very versatile.
I have this blank spot on my front porch.  This is the first thing you see when you walk up to my house. This is waaaaay too boring for me and when I saw these products I knew exactly what I wanted to make with it, some outdoor Halloween decor.
I wanted to make a decoupaged banner. I had my hubby cut me some triangles from thin plywood and then drilled holes in the corner. Here are some of the supplies I used for this project.
I painted the triangles in 3 different colors of paint..
Once dry, I traced and cut a triangle out of Martha Stewart’s decoupage paper for each triangle using 3 different designs.
I decoupaged the paper onto my painted plywood. I chose to use the Matte finish medium. Once the medium was dry I took a brush and went over the top of the paper.
I attached the triangles together with some Halloween fabric scraps.  I loved the bright polka dots.  I hung the banner up and it looked a little too plain.  I remembered I had bought this bat kit from Target last
Robes de bal courte year at 75% off.  In my box of goodies was some glow in the dark decoupage medium and I thought that might be really fun to use on this project.
I painted my circles and decoupaged a piece of coordinating paper onto the middle circle. I added some glitter to the 2 painted circles.  Once all the paint was dry I took the glow in the dark medium and went over each circle.

I painted the bats with the black high gloss paint and when that was dry added a coat of the black glitter paint.  I hot glued sequins on for their eyes. I LOVE how the bats sparkle.
I hung it underneath the banner.  I think it looks much more festive and welcoming when you walk onto my porch, don’t you??
