The Power of Color in Your Home

January 14, 2021 By Barb Camp 1 Comment

Thank you, Gabrielle Gardiner for sharing your wisdom and expertise with us.

There’s no doubt that we’re all spending more time indoors these days. Why not use the opportunity to make our homes as enjoyable as possible? Since it’s not always realistic to jump into a remodeling project, starting small is usually the best approach. Thankfully, you can reinvent your living space with a relatively low-effort interior painting project. Choosing the right types of calming colors is key to making your home into a more serene environment. At the end of this post, you’ll find an informative guide to revamping your house through the tranquil power of color.

How Calming Colors Can Revamp Your Home

If you’re curious how simply changing the color of your walls could really improve the feel of your house, consider color psychology. You’ll notice the majority of these colors highlighted below are neutral, low saturated shades. These types of colors have been shown to have a relaxing effect on the mind. For example, light blues, greens, and purples are peaceful, whereas highly saturated, bright colors like yellows, oranges, and reds are invigorating.

The Simple Yet Transformational Power of Paint Color

Painting your walls using the principles of color theory is a simple but powerful concept. Did you know that our wall colors can subconsciously impact our emotions, mood, and thoughts? After all, the colors we’re around daily influence us. Whether we realize it or not, emotional responses to color aren’t just imagined. Softer shades are universally soothing, making light pastels and neutrals especially popular for bedrooms and living rooms. Repainting with these kinds of colors is one of the most effective ways to create the quintessential relaxing home environment on a budget.

Another thing to consider is that you probably won’t need professional help to successfully paint your walls. But, it does help to peruse painting resources for advice. It’s important to remember when you let pros handle the details, you’ll have a stress-free experience and high-quality results. Typically, you can’t go wrong with hiring a painting company with positive reviews. However, if you decide to embark upon more complex projects to renovate your home, it can be tough to find the right service pros.

You’ll notice below we’ve rounded up some of the top paint colors for promoting a sense of happiness and calm in various rooms of the house. Perhaps the best part about updating your home by repainting your walls is that it’s a quick, achievable project. Of course, it’s also nice to update your home affordably by adding certain rugs or furniture in addition to repainting.

Word of mouth references and Yelp are great to a certain extent, but they aren’t always extremely reliable. If you’re in the process of updating your home and don’t know where to start in terms of hiring professionals, there are websites out there dedicated to helping you, free of cost. For example, word of mouth references can be tough, so a site like HomeAdvisor has a wealth of free resources and information about local pros.

The importance of color design stems from the significance of color to the human mind. Color creates ideas, expresses messages, spark interest, and generate certain emotions. ... Within the psychology of colors, warm colors show excitement, optimism, and creativity; cool colors symbolize peace, calmness, and harmony.
