It is ironic that I plan to post this series today on Loving your Body and yesterday at 8:00 am I got a phone call every parent dreads. Mrs. Camp this is Liz. a social worker for Bronson Emergency we need you to call this number as soon as possible. I received a call that my 22 yo son Drew had been in a snowmobile accident 4 hours from me and had been airflighted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo which is 3 1/2 hours from us. I will tell you that, that drive for 3 1/2 hours was torture. I had no idea if he had any brain function, but just that he was alive. We were told he was in stable condition but air transport and stable don’t go hand in hand.
I am happy to report that Drew is in the trauma ICU in stable condition. He broke his neck in 3 spots but God in his infinite mercy spared all damage to the spinal cord and he can move all of his appendages. He does have two brain bleeds in the brain, not between the brain and the skull which is better. Thank you, God AGAIN! The doc did tell me when we were reviewing films of his that he has seen people come in here way worse and walk out just fine, I’m clinging to that. He will be sedated for the first 5-7 days so the next few days will be a little gruesome as we WAIT! We would covet your prayers as we know they are our lifeline.
Uncle Drew and Beckett
Sooooo… this leaves me with a decision to make. Do I proceed on with what I planned to do or do I just scrap it because I have no idea what my life will look like? After prayer I’ve decided to not to do it this week, I will be at the hospital nonstop for a while, but I have lots of downtime too. (aka waiting time) So will evaluate as I go. I will need to learn to love my body in the “hard times” and the not so easy times.
Here are some pictures of my adventurous boy I’d love to share with you!
Here is a picture of our older 4 kids performing a Christmas program, I love their smiles.
I would LOVE your prayers, we soooo need them and we know our strength comes from the Lord.
