DIY Fun in the Sun Summer Tray

May 17, 2012 By Barb Camp 4 Comments

In our house it’s a tradition to have a tray for all of summer cookouts and bonfires.  So much so, that my granddaughter insists that she use a tray at home.  Our well loved tray fell apart after last summer.  So I decided it was time to get a new one. I found this tray at Target for $3.24.  It’s ok, but I’m really not a huge  fan of black as you can see by my plant marker post or my banquette seating post.

So I decided it needed a fun color.  So out came the spray paint and I painted the tray.

While it was drying I gathered my supplies.

Add a layer of Mod Podge

and then carefully place your paper starting at one end.

You will see some air bubbles. It will dry flat, but if your like most people you will be tempted to smooth it out.  If you do, do it very gently. Take it from me I’ve messed up many projects by trying to smooth it out  Once dry spray the tray  with your gloss sealer. The next step is to have a bonfire and enjoy your family!

Can’t wait!  Memorial Day is coming!
