God's Kryptonite

I recently met one of our company’s newest top producing agents and had the chance to chat with him after watching him walk across the stage many, many times collecting award after award. I made the comment that he was the companies’ new giant!   His wife told me that his parents told him as a child that they had found him in a field of kryptonite, that he could do/be anything he wanted.  And you know what?  He has.  I’ll spare you all the details of how since being in the company under 2 years, he’s accomplished more than most ever dream about.  But, it got me thinking.  Wow!  What we believe and think really does matter, it really does.  It also got me thinking, I wish I had parents like that and how my life coulda, woulda, shouda turned out had I had that kind of belief in me.  I almost headed down that self-pity trap but was quickly reminded that I do have a loving parent who tells me that all the time.  It’s just that sometimes I don’t listen, not sometimes,  most of the time.

Why, don’t I listen?  Why is it so much easier for me to believe the lies?  For one thing the lies have been rehearsed and meditated on for years and years and the truth of God’s special belief in me rarely gets focused on.  I want that to change.  I want to think on all the ways God believes in me.  All the ways that God leads me in victory.  I want to think His truths on purpose.  So, how do I do that?  How do I do it on purpose?  The old me would’ve set to work on setting out a plan of how I would accomplish that, but no my first thought was, “God, how do I do it?”  What do you even believe about me, show me?  And this is what He said:

Barb, YOU can do ALL things through me, Christ when you allow ME to strengthen you.  Wow! That is powerful.  That sounds like some mighty kryptonite belief in me from God.

And another, In Him you Barb, have been made complete.  Col. 2:9, 10 ASV   Complete, what does that mean? says complete=having all parts or elements; lacking nothing; whole; entire;

Lacking nothing?  Why do I always feel I’m not enough, that I’m missing something to make me whole? Always lacking?  I believe a lie!  I am complete in Christ, lacking nothing.

God, how do I believe what you are saying to me?  I have to renew my mind to believe and that takes effort.  It takes “on purpose living”. It takes daily time with Him studying and learning from Him.

He says a whole lot more to me  I just have to listen.   I have some mighty kryptonite power right at my fingertips, for free!

An Inexpensive Mother's Day Gift

The project I want to share today is a Mother's Day gift idea.  I thought and thought of what I could do for my mother for Mother's Day.  I scoured my brain for things she loves and came up with two things that would work together.  She loves to garden and she loves tea cups and saucers.  She has a huge collection of tea cups and saucers, but she doesn't have a teacup with a plant in it.  I decided to put two of her favorite things together and make this:

Here's what you do:
Find a teacup and saucer.  Thrift stores, Garage Sales and Consignment shops are a great place to find them.
Use something to glue the cup to the saucer.  I used Liquid Nails.

Put a few small stones in the bottom for drainage.

Add top soil.

Add your succulents. Succulents are great because they don't require a lot of watering or a lot of upkeep.

A simple inexpensive gift.  If your mother isn't interested in tea cups you could use old decorative tins or small baskets.  Use your imagination!  Just make sure you add small stones for drainage.

Happy Mothers Day Mom!!!

Guest post - Cooking Pinterest Style

Hi! It's Adriane again still filling in for my mom...

For today's post, I thought I'd talk about something I like even better than blogs and crafting - FOOD! I consider myself a foodie and love watching cooking shows on TV and reading cookbooks. For inspiration, I went to my Pinterest Recipe Board and found this recipe for S'mores Cookies that I had pinned 5 times! I knew right then that I should give it a try!

My girls got in on the fun and we made it a family affair. (Ignore all the clutter on the counter ...)

Here are the cookies hot from the oven ...

And the final product!

My family gave them 2 thumbs up! With Summer right around the corner they're perfect. Give them try and let me know if you like them!

Guest Post - DIY Curtains

Hi! I'm Adriane, and as my mom mentioned, I'm going to be guest posting a couple of times this week while my parents get a little R&R (I'm totally jealous!!).

A little about me ... I LOVE blogs. I love reading them, following them, crafting with them and I've always wanted to have one. So, when my mom told me that she was going to start one, I have to admit, I was a little jealous. But between being a wife, a mom to 2 young girls, a full-time CPA, a part-time MBA student and a Brownie troop leader, I have little time to be a blogger! So, when my mom asked me to fill in while she was gone, I was thrilled!

I decided to share with you a project I just completed that I'm super excited about!

About a year ago, I came across these curtains from Athropologie and I absolutely love them! Aren't they beautiful?

What I didn't love, however, was the price. There was no way $228 a curtain panel was going to fit into my budget. So, I began searching for a DIY solution that I could afford. And this is what I found at Hobby Lobby - for $34.99 per yard. I fell instantly in love and have been dreaming about the fabric ever since.

And this past week (on my post tax-season shopping excursion), I pulled the trigger and bought it! Here's how they turned out ...

My curtains before (sorry about the awful picture):

One curtain up:

And the final product:

I love them! And I love the price - around $130 for the pair! My husband doesn't and thinks I'm crazy for putting up bird curtains! The sales lady at Hobby Lobby says she's gotten lots of lookers but no buyers. What about you? Would you put up bird curtains?

Nail Polish Painted Earrings

I got this dress yesterday to take on my trip to Mexico on Monday.

I LOVE it! BUT I had no earrings to go with it.  I looked around at a few stores and couldn't find anything I really liked for a price I liked.  I was looking at some linky parties this morning and ran across a blog that had painted earrings with nail polish.  Later I was at the grocery store and saw these 2 polishes at the store for 1.99 buy one get second 50% off and that blog post flashed through my mind. I knew I had earrings that were tarnishing and I snagged up the polish.

So I gathered my earrings and my polish.  I had a pink one so grabbed that one too and started to paint.

After I was done painting and they had dried I sprayed them with a sealer so they wouldn't chip.

I'm so pleased with how they turned out.  Either pair will work. These would also make a great inexpensive gift for someone.  What do you think?  Do you think you would ever do something like this?

Need a few gift ideas?
