Stop Seeking Validation from Others: Embrace Your Worth in Christ

October 11, 2024

This might ruffle a few feathers, but it’s the truth: waiting for others to validate you is a losing game.

For years, society has led us to believe that our value is tied to what we do—whether it’s in our careers, our homes, or even our relationships. We fall into the trap of thinking that our worth depends on the approval and praise we receive. But here’s the thing: your value was never meant to be based on that.

So, why does this get me fired up? Because too many amazing women are walking around feeling less-than, all because they’re not being showered with praise for their hard work. This flawed system is hurting us—our hearts, our confidence, and our souls.

Let’s break down why this is all wrong:

1. Your Worth is Intrinsic

Your value was placed in you by God Himself. It’s not something you earn, and it’s definitely not something anyone can take away. The Bible tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Your worth comes from God, and it is inherent, no matter what the world says about you. Knowing this allows you to walk in confidence, free from the need for external validation.

2. Appreciation from Others Isn’t the Foundation

Yes, it’s nice to be appreciated. Who doesn’t love being told they’ve done a good job? But while appreciation is sweet, it can’t be the foundation of your identity. The Bible warns us that if we build on anything other than Christ, it’s like building on sinking sand (Matthew 7:24-27). If you’re constantly chasing approval, your joy and peace will be unstable. It’s time to build your foundation on something unshakable—your identity in Christ.

3. Don’t Hand Over Your Joy

When we place our value in the hands of others, we give them control over our joy. This means that the moment someone fails to recognize our worth, we begin to feel less-than. This is a dangerous game because people are imperfect. But God is constant, and His view of you never changes. When you root your identity in Him, you take back control of your joy. No one else gets to determine how valuable you are.

You Are Enough in Christ

If you hear nothing else, hear this: You are already enough. If you are in Christ, your value is secure, and you don’t need anyone else to confirm it for you. The pressure to perform, to prove your worth, melts away when you understand this truth.

There’s so much more I could say about this, but let me leave you with this thought: you don’t have to wait for anyone else’s approval. God has already declared your worth, and that is more than enough. Walk in that truth today, confident in who you are in Christ.
