“I have everything I NEED, but not everything I want."

This has been an incredibly trying week.  We have had a really mild winter for northern Michigan but on Friday they were calling for 12-15 inches of snow overnight.  I LOVE snow in winter and was really looking forward to it all.  But not looking forward to what came with the snow.  We were slammed with 18-30 inches of wet heavy snow and blessed with no power.  Our county and 2 surrounding counties were under a state of emergency.  Power was out throughout most of the area. Traffic lights were down all over town. The first day without power was fun.

This is day 6 with no power and I want to share what I've learned.  I've learned I take a lot of things for granted, a lot of simple things in life.  Right now I would LOVE to do some laundry and vacuum my floor and wash dishes with running water.  Oh wait, did I mention take a shower in my own home and flush the toilets by pushing a handle, not by dumping buckets of water into the toilet.  I can’t!   But am I destitute and hungry and freezing?  Nope, I have a gas fireplace which heats the main floor.  I have a small generator that lights my bedroom.  I have a TV in my room with working cable,  one light and a cell phone charger.  I have a smart phone with working interenet which provides me with communication to the outside world.  I have everything I need, but not everything I want.  No, I want my life as I knew it.  Without it I feel ripped off. I feel cheated.  I feel entitled.  God, forgive my ungrateful spirit.  Forgive my complaining, my murmuring and grumbling.  Lord, you’ve provided everything I need, but not everything I want and I thank you for showing me how un-content I am. Thank you for showing me that I need YOU not the luxuries of this world.  That what I have is enough.  Thank you for this trial.  Thank you for showing me I have everything I need, but not everything I want.

On the 6th day God said Let there be light at the Camp House and there was light. And they all said it was very, very good.   What about you?  Do you have everything you need??
